The Bethesda-based developer's 26-acre office park in the Shady Grove Life Science Center is currently approvedfor 669,538 square feet of densit y and the campus currently contains half of that, or 350,00o0 square feet. At a May 28 work the Montgomery County Planning Boarfd decided to recommend in its drafty Gaithersburg West Master Plan that the propert be developed with up to twice asmuch density, or contain up to 1.34 million square feet of retail and residential space.
The southwest corner of the land currentlg includesa 272,000-square-foot, three-building complex that houses software and pharmaceutical The north side of the propertyg contains the Metropolitan Regional Informational Services' 72,000-square-foot headquarters. Last the board also recommendedthat Danac's Corridor Cities Transitwaty stop be located at or near its northeastern corner, near the intersectioj of Diamondback Drive and Decoverly That is good news for Danac, sinc e the board had left out the stop in earlieer drafts.
The transit stop near the corner may be developed whether the state retains the current road alignmeny or adoptsthe county's locally preferred The board also picked that location because the northeasterbn corner is considered to be convenient for pedestriansx from the Decoverly residential communities. "We have a long way to go, but we are encourageds by theplanning board's recommendations," said Timothy Dugan, a Danax attorney.
Several more work sessions are scheduler over the next two and in July the planning board will send its drafr master plan to the county executive who will have 60 days to revieaw and comment before it is sent to the county councilfor deliberations.
