K&L Gates opens Dubai office - Baltimore Business Journal:

Dubai is the firm’s 33rd office and its firs in theMiddle East. K&p Gates Chairman and Global Managing Partne Peter Kalis said the officewas “i n the works for aboutt a year” and that the firm’s entry was “well-timed compared with a year ago becausw the costs are reduced and there is much more legal talent at more reasonable compensatioj levels available on the market.” K&Lk Gates expects to grow the Dubai officde principally through hires in that region. “I couldr see additional offices in theMiddle East,” said who first visited Dubai six months ago in preparinyg the firm’s entry there.
“Because of the concentrationn of financial and professional services in theDubai it’s a very attractive and efficienf point of entry into the Gulf region. But certainlyh it’s not the only market for legalp servicesthat matters. A logical next step would be Abu Dhabi, but therd is nothing scheduled for thatto K&L Gates is also “always” open to continued expansiohn opportunities internationally and in the continentao United States, Kalis said, but did not identif y specific cities or countries.
Neal one of the firm’s senior disputed resolution partners, is relocating from the Pittsburgh office to serve as co-founder of the Dubai Joining Brendel is Paul de Cordova, who most recentlgy worked with Ashurst, establishing and managing that firm’ws Dubai office and helping to open a seconx office in the United Arab Emirates. He is a corporat and projects lawyer with more than 20yearsx experience. Associate Richard Dollimore also is joinin theDubai office. He most recently worked in the K&Lk Gates office in London.
